A Poem of my Winter Break Travels

1, 2, 3, 4, 5... 5. all of us travelers are accounted for,
anticipation and excitement- this adventure will be anything but a bore,
backpacks unmovable from our straps,
We board the plane-will sunshine await us, perhaps?

Late in the night we land,
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam first we planned.
The night, alive;  tourists, everywhere.
Taking in all the foreigners it seems all we can do is stare.

A week of sightseeing is finally here,
in the sunshine our layers thankfully disappear.
We seek out and dine at the city's hidden treasure,
eating the famous Lunch Lady's soup is pure pleasure!!

Hitting up the late night market to shop,
we stumble into their trademark food 'Phu' and stop.
We discover massages, Coffee bean,  baskin robbins, and cupcakes
Truly, this is what a vacation makes!

The prices are not steep,
and we visit the Vietnam War site they keep.
We also cruise down the Mekong Delta river
where I held a python that made me shiver!

One night sticks out to me,
we stumbled upon the Sheraton's club empty.
A band was performing pop songs live,
we decided to dance around like we were five!

Afterward, we head to find street food,
a young, skinny girl came to me changing the mood.
Baby on her hip, money was her plea,
hesitant, I asked the Father to help me see.

With the Spirit's lead
I offer to buy her a meal- it appears she needs.
We search for something to buy,
nothing is open so late at nigh'.

Embarrassed the young girl shrugs away,
I look for something to say,
She is already gone.
Disappointment dawns.

As we walk in the other direction,
I felt a conviction.
Unsure, I keep going,
suddenly, she runs back to me, pointing.

I look and see an OPEN 7/11.
I shake my head at the sign from heaven!
I buy her and the baby food,
baby blowing kisses to me ensued.

The night was an answer to prayer,
that I'm glad He let me share!
Settling for a day bus to Cambodia next,
restlessness and weariness were the effects.

Phnom Penh was our first stop,
nothing but western shops.
One more horrible bus ride later,
we arrive at Siam Reap- so much greater!

Angkor Wat is our first sightseeing activity,
the old temples at sunrise-a delightful festivity!
Shopping, fish feet massages, delicious food,
and an afternoon at the pool put us in a good mood!

After Cambodia, it was a month in Thailand!
Thailand has the best fruit- seriously it's just grand!
A week of taking care of some awesome kids,
we move to a week of fellowship that flipped our lids!

500 or more brothers and sisters coming to claim,
the Holy Father of whose Son was slain!
A gift to my heart, was our unified praise,
it was a week of glorious daze!

Then came a week at the beaches,
being with my parents was sweeter than peaches!
Great buffets, pool time and deep catch-up conversation
smiles and laughter marked the duration!

An elephant ride, a monkey bite,
sea cave exploring, and white water rafting must've been a great sight!
A hard goodbye, a few more days and I returned back,
Changchun.... where the snow is not in lack!

First day of classes went by in a jiff
I was called "black" and Taylor Swift.
I'm full of joy and love as the semester begins,
it's all glory to the One who pardons my sins!!
